Vountas, Marco
Marco Vountas
Group at IUP: |
Member of 1) Cloud, Aerosol and Surface Properties and 2) IT & Scientific Computing group |
Current Position: |
Senior researcher at the Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen. Leading the group Cloud, Aerosol and Surface Properties and the IT & Scientific Computing group. |
Research Interest: |
Retrieval of aerosol, clouds, radiation properties based on remote sensing. Furthermore, interest in radiative transfer modeling, the retrieval of aquatic parameters and terrestrial plant parameter retrieval. |
Research Career: |
M. Vountas studied electronics/telecommunications at the University of Bremen, Germany and received his Ph.D. degree in physics from the Institute of Environmental Physics in 1998 in the field of inelastic scattering and radiative transfer modeling. From 1998 until 1999 he was a postdoc continuing his research at the same institute in the department „Physics and Chemistry of the Atmosphere“ (PCA). Until 2001 he worked in industry (internet provider and space company). Since 2001 he is a scientist at Institute of Environmental Physics dealing with retrievals of aerosol, clouds and aquatic optical parameters from space-borne data as well as inelastic scattering within radiative transfer modeling. He coordinates scientific computing, as well as the IT of the PCA . He is leading the group „Cloud, Aerosol and Surface Properties“, which is an integral part of the PCA, with the research focus on the respective retrieval of geophysical parameters from remote sensing data, mainly measured from space. |
Additional Information: |
M. Vountas is actively involved in IT campus policy and a lecturer of the course „Atmospheric Aerosols“. |
